Most alarm calls Tigard Police officers respond to are false alarms. False alarms impact the police department's ability to address more urgent matters.  The City of Tigard maintains an alarm ordinance to protect emergency services from misuse. The current system is down, and no new applications, renewals or payments can be made until the new system comes online on April 14, 2026. Rest assured, you will not incur a late fee for missing a payment in this window.

Alarm Permit Information

• Tigard residents and businesses using an alarm must have an alarm permit. 
• Residents over age 60 or physically handicapped, qualify as exempt of the annual fee. If eligible, email TPDAlarmPermits@tigard-or.gov or call 503-718-2777.

Before you Activate your Alarm System

• Give your alarm permit number to your alarm company. 
• Ensure everyone using the alarm knows how to operate it. 
• Securely lock doors/windows, keep pets, balloons, fans, and stacked items from sensor areas.

If You Accidentally Activate an Alarm 

• DO NOT CALL 911 or the Police Department to cancel an alarm. Enter your disarm code and contact your alarm company to cancel police dispatch.
• Have your alarm company call a designated person before police are called. 

Contact Your Alarm Company 

• With emergency contact information. 
• Provide dates and contact information in your absence (vacation, etc.)
• Before changing alarm system batteries.
