We'll focus on different topic areas each week that help you get an "inside look" at your local police department, how we operate and our different units. 

This program is designed to give you a comprehensive and interactive understanding of policing in Tigard through hands-on activities, demonstrations, tours, classroom presentations and live scenarios.

You can expect to take a tour of the police department and learn the basics before diving into:

• Patrol (the officers who serve your neighborhoods)
• Detectives / Investigations (including person crimes and commercial crimes)
• Crime Analysis
• Traffic Unit
• K-9 Teams
• Drones
• Property & Evidence
• School Resource Officers (SROs)
• Professional Standards, Complaints and Discipline Process
• Force Response
• Procedural Justice & Police Legitimacy
• Crisis Intervention & Mental Health Response
• ... and much more

The Community Academy fosters communication and understanding between our agency and the community we serve. It is a way for officers and the community to interact in a positive, low-key environment, providing an opportunity to see beyond the badge and get to know one another on a more meaningful and personal level.

The Community Academy is held one evening per week for 10 weeks. Due to the cumulative nature of the course, we kindly ask that you attend all 10 sessions.

 Our 2025 course will be held Thursday evenings from 5:30 PM to 9:00 PM beginning March 20 and ending May 22.

A light dinner will be provided each week and there is no cost to attend.
