The Tigard Police Department has two K-9 teams that support the patrol unit: K-9 Rico with Officer Suyama and K-9 Cooper with Officer Fourie.

The German Shepherds are trained to track and locate criminal suspects, articles of clothing or evidence that may have been dropped nearby, search for missing persons and more. They may be sent into a building to check for suspects after an alarm activation or in the course of an investigation, and if a suspect were to physically harm an officer, the K-9's are trained to intervene.

The K-9 teams undergo extensive training through the Oregon Police Canine Association, including 400 training hours over the course of 10 weeks. The teams regularly attend community and school events, including classroom presentations, rotary meetings and more.

A third K-9 team, Officer Powers with K-9 Diesel, retired in July 2023.
