Tigard Public Safety Renewal Levy
Tigard Public Safety Renewal Levy
In May 2024, Tigard voters showed their overwhelming support for the Public Safety Renewal Levy, which passed by a margin of 78%.
First approved by voters in 2020, this renewal preserves our investments in public safety for another five years. Specifically, it allows the Tigard Police Department to retain critical staff members who were hired when the levy first passed, including:
- 8 police officers on patrol
- 1 School Resource Officer
- 1 Property & Evidence Specialist
- 1 Records Specialist
The renewal also allows us to continue advanced crisis intervention and de-escalation training for all of our police officers.
From all of us at Tigard Police, thank you, Tigard!
Please also take a moment to watch this video message from Interim Chief Jamey McDonald, thanking Tigard voters for their support.

Officer Spotlight: Chino Pumpelly
Chino Pumpelly is one of the police officers whose hire was made possible with the passage of the public safety levy. He worked in private sales and was laid off due to the COVID-19 pandemic. That’s when he decided to pursue his dream of becoming a police officer! He was born in Vietnam and was adopted by a family in southern Oregon, and says that experience helped him be more inquisitive in and curious about other diverse cultures. He is married with two grown children and we are happy to have him!
