Interim Chief of Police Robert Rogers joined the Tigard Police Department in 1997 after being raised in an Air Force family that settled in the Sherwood area. After high school, Chief Rogers followed a family tradition of service by entering the U.S. Army and served in locations along the east coast, the middle east and in Europe over the course of six years. In 1991, he became a police officer in Arkansas before he returned to Oregon and joined the Tigard Police Department.

He was promoted to Sergeant in 2000, to Lieutenant in 2006 and to Captain in 2009. In the summer of 2016, Rogers was promoted to Commander and has served in both the operations and services divisions over the years. He previously served as the department’s Interim Chief of Police for nine months in 2017.

Chief Rogers holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Saint Leo University in Florida, a master’s certificate from the University of Virginia, an Executive Certification from the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) and is a graduate of the 242nd session of the FBI National Academy. He is an active member of the Oregon Chapter of the FBI National Academy Associates and the International Association of Chiefs of Police. He continues to serve as an advisory board member and past president of the Oregon Executive Development Institute and is a life member of the Oregon Associations of Chiefs of Police.
