Homeowners
This guide is intended to answer most basic questions about 1 & 2 family dwelling building and planning requirements in the City of Tigard. The City of Tigard does not enforce codes, covenants and restrictions of neighborhood homeowners associations. If you belong to a homeowners association check with the association to be sure your project does not violate their rules.
Oregon law requires you to obtain permits for a range of work on your home to ensure that the improvements meet minimum building standards to ensure safe workmanship. View the Oregon Building Codes Division page for specific details.
Exemption from building permits does not exempt your project from the planning requirements as set forth in Title 18 of the Tigard Municipal Code. Please contact the planning division at 503-718-2421 or tigardplanneronduty@tigard-or.gov regarding property setbacks and zoning prior to the construction of your project.
