Mayor Hu is a food & drug lawyer whose practice focuses on FDA law and regulation.  In addition to his work on the City Council, Yi serves on the Tigard Chamber of Commerce's Diversity and Community Engagement Committee, where he advocates for equity and inclusion in the local business community.  Prior to his election to the Council, Yi served on the Tigard Planning Commission, Tigard Transportation Advisory Committee, and Oregon Board of Naturopathic Medicine.

Born in Taiwan, Yi immigrated to the United States with his family as a child.  He and his husband, Abram, have lived in Tigard for 20 years.  Outside of his work, Yi enjoys walking and biking around Tigard and exploring the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest.

Before his legal career, Yi worked as a research scientist.  He holds a BA in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology from Reed College, a Ph.D. in the same field from Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), and a law degree from Lewis & Clark Law School.

Yi’s diverse background and experience have shaped his belief in the importance of creating a city where everyone feels valued and included.  As Mayor, he is committed to ensuring Tigard is a place where all community members have the opportunity to thrive and contribute to our growth and success.
