Tigard Council Positions Open for Election

A Mayor and three Tigard City Councilor Positions will be on the November 3, 2026 ballot. 

• Mayor: One 4-year term – January 1, 2027-December 31, 2030
• Councilors: Three 4-year terms – January 1, 2027-December 31, 2030
  The top three Councilor candidates will be elected.

Prospective Candidates

Candidates for all positions must:

• Be a qualified elector under State law and registered to vote in the City of Tigard.
• Have continuously resided within the Tigard city limits for at least one-year immediately before the date of election (November 3).

How to Run for Council 

To qualify for nomination, a candidate must submit a petition signed by at least 20 Tigard registered voters and pay a $50 filing fee. The petition form must be approved by the City Recorder prior to signature collection. The City Recorder will have the signatures verified by the Washington County Elections Division.

Key Dates

• June 3: First day to file for the November 3, 2026 General Election
• August 18, 5 PM: Last day for elected incumbent candidates filing for the same office
• August 25, 5 PM: Last day for candidates, other than elected incumbents seeking re-election to the same office
• September 3: Deadline for cities to turn in slate of candidates to Washington County
• September 8: Washington County Voters’ Pamphlet deadline for candidate statements and photos
• November 3: General Election Day

Benefits

Each city councilor receives a monthly stipend of $674 and the mayor receives a monthly stipend of $5,131. Both councilors and the mayor receive a $275 monthly vehicle allowance, as well as the use of city-issued technology and cell phones. They are also eligible for 50% coverage under the city's health insurance plan. The City Council typically holds three to four evening meetings each month, and the mayor and councilors serve as liaisons to city and regional boards and committees.

Ballots & Drop Sites

Election Day: Tuesday, November 3, 2026

Oregon elections are conducted by mail. Ballots postmarked before or on Election Day will be honored. Ballots delivered to the Elections Office or a drop site must be received by 8 PM Election Day.

Official Drop Site

 You can return your ballot by mail or find an official elections drop box. Tigard City Hall (13125 SW Hall Blvd.) is an official drop site. There is a drive-through ballot box located at the north end of the city hall parking lot. Look for red and white “VOTE” signs directing you to the official ballot box.
