City of Tigard

Photography Guidelines for Public Events

Effective April 1, 2015
The City of Tigard takes pictures often at events, meetings and at various places throughout the community. The city also recognizes that an individual’s response to his or her photograph being used by the city is a matter of personal preference.  The city’s photography guidelines are established to balance the interests of both the individual and the city.

The city will not use or make public an image of a child under the age of 18, without the prior, written consent of the child’s parent or legal guardian.

The city will make reasonable efforts to give notice to individuals of the city’s intent to take and use photographs of adults in public spaces.  When pictures will be taken by the city at city-sponsored events or other public gatherings, the city will post a notice in a place conspicuous to the public.

Notices will be posted conspicuously on city property, including City Hall, the Tigard Public Library and the Tigard Public Works Building.

Absent a request by an individual to not be photographed, and provided there are no children in the photograph, the city will not ask for any additional consent to use or make public an image taken at a public event.

The city also will continue to televise and broadcast public meetings with service provided by Tualatin Valley Community TV (TVCTV).

Please contact the city if you have any questions regarding the city’s photography guidelines. Call 503-718-2758 or send your comments via our website.
