Important Update
Attention Tigard Property Owners with Food Carts or Food Cart Pods
The City of Tigard has adopted a new code for food carts and food cart pods, effective January 28, 2025.
Si necesita esta información en español, por favor lee aquí.
- What This Means for Food Carts Established Before January 28, 2025:
Food carts and pods that were established and licensed before this date can continue operating legally, regardless of whether they had prior land use approval. Any changes made after January 28, 2025, must comply with the new code.
- How You Can Prove Your Food Cart Was Established Before January 28, 2025:
Typically, it is the responsibility of business owners to prove their business existed before new regulations were enacted. To make this process easier for our local businesses, the City of Tigard is creating a registry of food carts that were established and licensed before January 28, 2025, to exempt them from the new regulations.
- How to Get Your Food Cart or Food Cart Pod on the Registry:
To be included in the registry, submit your information by May 31, 2025. This information will only be used for the purpose of verifying your cart’s eligibility to continue operating without adhering to the new regulations.
- What Happens If You Don’t Register by May 31st, 2025?
Food carts not registered by this date may need to provide additional documentation to prove that they were in operation prior to January 28, 2025. This may include business licenses, food service licenses, tax records, utility bills, and other supporting documents.
- What If You Started After January 28, 2025?
If you started your business or moved to a new location after January 28, 2025, you will need to comply with the new code.
To avoid extra paperwork later, we encourage you to submit your information now using THIS FORM.
