Does receiving a training scholarship mean I’ll get a promotion or new job?

No. Career advancement is not guaranteed. This program simply helps reduce the financial costs of professional/career related training for an employer and employee.
How is the training provider paid when there are multiple contributors (Employer, Employee, City of Tigard)?

After the employer/employee agree upon payment contributions and sign program agreement form, the typical process if for IRCO to invoice all parties, including City of Tigard, and make full payment to the training provider.
What is a career advancement?

Career Advancement is the process of building skills and/or credentials in order to enhance or improve opportunities within the same career or industry. This is often in the form of a short-term occupational training or certificate program.
What is a career training and advancement plan?

A Career Training and Advancement Plan is an individualized, step-by-step guide for reaching the candidate’s career goals. Career Coaches provided at no cost as part of this program work with individuals and their employer to develop a plan based on skills and credentials required of the industry/business and trainings.
Who can apply for this career training grant?

A resident of the city of Tigard working in Tigard with a business located in the city of Tigard is eligible to apply.
Who decides which training is appropriate?

An employer and an employee decide on the appropriate training that will prepare an employee for advancement with their current employer. The training must be approved by City of Tigard and IRCO staff in order to receive a grant.

This training scholarship provides covers up to 50% of career education, skill development, and training for Tigard residents (no matter where they work) and employees of Tigard- based firms (no matter where they live).
