Starting July 13, the Tualatin River boat launch access road and lower parking lot at Cook Family Park will be closed to vehicle access through October 2026 for the construction of the accessible dock project. Access to the boat launch area and river will be limited to pedestrians and bicycles only.  Vehicle parking will still be available at the east and west parking lots and the areas around the accessible playground and sports fields. 

The Cook Family Accessible Dock Project is being completed in two phases. Last summer, the wooden boarding dock at the boat dock launch was removed and replaced with a new, modern design. The second phase includes site preparation and installation of a new ADA-compliant path and gangway leading to a fully accessible dock with adaptive hardware and a kayak/paddleboard slip. 

Site preparation and construction of the ADA-compliant pathway will begin in July and be finished by the end of October to ensure the work occurs within the approved in-water work window required by the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife. The timeline for the installation of the accessible gangway and dock is still being determined. Installation could occur as early as fall 2026 or in the spring of 2027. 

During construction, river users will still be able to access the river via the boat launch ramp or the boarding dock. River Rentals, operated by Tualatin Riverkeepers, will remain open during construction through early September. 

The City of Tigard received grants from the Oregon State Marine Board and the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife for the first phase of the project. For the second phase, the city received two grants from the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department. The remaining funding needed for the project came from Parks System Development Charges.
