The Tigard City Council voted on January 6 to bring fireworks back to the city’s Fourth of July celebration, marking a return to a long-standing community tradition and delivering significant cost savings for taxpayers. This year’s fireworks display will cost approximately $27,500 — $52,500 less than the 2025 drone show. City leaders say the decision reflects both fiscal responsibility and strong public input.
Community feedback played a key role in the shift. Residents expressed overwhelming support for returning to a traditional fireworks show, and Council members listened. In addition to the savings, the fireworks display will run approximately 20 minutes, compared to the 12-minute drone show, offering, as some noted, “more bang for the buck.”
The 2026 celebration will be especially meaningful as the community gathers to mark America’s 250th birthday. Fireworks will be launched from Cook Family Park, with viewing available from the grass fields at Tigard High School. Western Fireworks Display, a trusted provider that supported Tigard’s past community-run shows, will once again deliver the event and Light Up the Sky.
City staff also highlighted opportunities for local businesses and vendors to sponsor the celebration and support this beloved tradition. Sponsorship details, including tier levels and benefits, are available on the city’s website.
