Project Description
Traffic on SW 121st Ave, between Tippitt Place and Whistlers Loop, is increasing, causing congestion on the two-lane road. The surrounding areas are residential neighborhoods. This portion of 121st Ave, also has poor street lighting and drainage, sidewalk gaps and no bike lanes.
The project has improved safety and traffic flow on 121st Ave. with continuous sidewalks, bike lanes, street lights, and drainage.
This project completed the sidewalks and bike lanes from Walnut Street to Gaarde Street.
We partnered with Washington County to install a 24-inch water main as part of this project. This partnerships is lowering the water project cost and is minimizing road construction impacts.
COST: Washington County is managing and providing the majority of the funding for this project under the County Major Streets Transportation Improvement Program (MSTIP).
TIMELINE: This project was completed in July of 2023.
WHY IS THE PROJECT NEEDED: 121st Avenue is a busy, narrow roadway with no place to walk or bike outside the travel lane. This route would otherwise be used by many people to get to and from their neighborhoods. This project is the top priority project for the Transportation Advisory Committee.
STRATEGIC PLAN TIE-IN: Advances our vision to become a walkable, healthy and accessible community for everyone.
