Cook Family Park - Accessible Dock Replacement

Project Description
The Cook Family Park Dock Project involves replacing a deteriorating timber boarding dock at the Cook Family Park boat launch and adding a second dock downstream that will provide a universally designed dock with adaptive hardware and low freeboard design for people of all abilities to access the river. This project will be completed in two phases.
Phase 1 includes removing and replacing the boarding dock at the boat launch with a modern Oregon State Marine Board approved design. The new boarding dock was completed in the summer of 2025. To protect the usable life, the new dock will be removed each winter and placed each spring.
Phase 2 includes installing a new ADA compliant path and gangway, leading to a fully accessible dock with adaptive hardware and kayak/paddleboard slip. Construction of phase 2 will begin July 13, 2026. The site preparation and construction of the ADA pathway will be completed by the end of October of 2026. The new gangway and accessible dock design is currently being finalized and will be placed in late fall or in spring of 2027.
During construction, the vehicle access road and lower parking lot will be closed to vehicles starting July 13 through end of October. Pedestrians and bicycles access only during construction. Funding Sources
Phase 1 funding sources include Parks System Development Charges (SDCs), and grants from Oregon State Marine Board and Oregon Dept. of Fish and Wildlife.
Phase 2 funding sources currently include Parks System Development Charges (SDCs) and a grant from Oregon Parks and Recreation Department.
Operation and Maintenance Costs
Reduces impacts to the bank as the new dock can removed from the water during the winter resulting in less wear and tear on the dock and reduces sediment and erosion from occurring along the riverbank.
Why It's Needed
Phase 1 replaced an aged wooden dock that was beyond useful life and in disrepair. Phase 2 to provide an accessible dock will assist nonmotorized boaters with physical limitations to have improved access to the Tualatin River for kayaking, canoeing, and paddle boarding.
