Craft Supply Swap: Vouchers Required

Drop off your new or gently used craft supplies at the 2nd Floor Reference Desk during the week of July 19-25 to receive a voucher. Bring it back on Sunday, July 26 to exchange for one paper bag to “shop” the collected donations! From 2-3 PM, remaining supplies will be available to all, no vouchers needed. Limit 1 voucher per household.

What to Donate: 

We are looking for new, or gently used craft supplies!  Here are some categories we’d love to accept: 

  • Utensils: inks, pencils, paints, brushes, erasers, and markers 
    • All Markers and pens must have caps.
    • Pencils must be unused, and in a container.
    • Paint brushed must be unused, or thoroughly cleaned.
    • Erasers must be unused or very gently used.
    • Inks, and Paint must be liquid, sealed, and unexpired.
  • Fibers: yarn, twine, macrame rope, felt, fabric, thread, embroidery supplies, ribbon, quilting tools, and sewing accessories.
    • Yarn, twine, and macrame rope must be balled, and not loose in tangles.
    • Ribbon, embroidery floss, and thread must be spooled, or looped, and not loose in tangles.
    • Embroidery, quilting, and sewing notions like needles must be contained.
  • Substrates: canvas, watercolor paper, drawing paper, scratch boards, panels, sketchbooks, construction paper, and newsprint 
    • Any used sketchbook pages with drawings of any kind must be removed before donation. 
  • Expendables: glue, tape, butcher paper.
    • Glue containers must be sealed, unexpired, and still liquid (unless they are hot glue sticks).
  • Hard Crafts: beads, jewelry findings, wire, containers, artificial flowers, foam, scrapbooking supplies, wood crafts
    • Wood crafts can include clothespins, dowels, toothpicks, coffee stirrers, spools, tongue depressors, and bamboo skewers
    • Wire must be spooled.
    • Jewelry findings must be sealed and unused. 

What NOT to Donate:

If you would not pick up these items to use, take, or purchase, then it’s a good chance they aren’t a good fit for this craft swap.

  • Glass or ceramic shards, or anything related to stained glass, glass work, blown glass, or mosaic work. 
  • Textiles with adult-content themed patterns.
  • Liquid Resin based products, and resin-based craft supplies.
  • Solder, metal shards, or metalworking supplies used for crucible work, or metallurgy. 
  • Hazardous Materials including oil-based solvents, solutions and chemical cleaners, house paint.
  • Antiques, curios, and décor.
  • Items that are smelly, dirty, excessively heavy, or in need of repair.
  • Small scraps (less than a fat quarter), cut-up t-shirts, stuffing from your sofa, old pillows, or clothing.
