Thank you for your interest!
The Tigard Police Community Academy is a great opportunity to get an “inside look” at your local police department.
The course includes hands-on activities, demonstrations, tours, classroom presentations and scenarios designed to provide you with a comprehensive and interactive understanding of our department.
This 10-week program will be held Thursdays from February 26 – May 7th from 5:30 - 9:00 PM.
We will not hold class the week of spring break (Thursday, March 26, 2026).
A light dinner is provided each week.
Please be aware, this is a 10 week commitment. Due to the cumulative nature of the course, we kindly ask that you attend all 10 sessions. We look forward to accepting up to 30 people representing a diverse group of Tigard community members age 16+ (unless a parent makes a special request).
Each week, take an in-depth look at different parts of our department, including:
- A Tour of the Police Department
- Hiring Processes
- Police Officer Training
- Patrol Basics
- Traffic Unit
- K-9 Unit
- Drone Program
- Property & Evidence
- Forensics
- Criminal Investigations Unit (Detectives)
- Commercial Crimes Unit (Detectives)
- Internal Affairs
- Police Legitimacy & Procedural Justice
- Force Response
- Mental Health Response Team
- Live Scenario Day
- … and MUCH more!
If you are interested in attending, registration is now open! To apply, please submit the form on our website: www.tigard-or.gov/CommunityAcademy.
We will be taking applications until February 15, 2026 or until we reach 30 applications, whichever comes first. We encourage you to do apply sooner rather than later because we expect to fill up quickly!
