New to Computers and the Internet?

Free computer classes and open learning labs are typically held in the Technology Room on the second floor of the library. Registration is not required. Classes are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Stop by the Reference Desk a few minutes before classes start to get a ticket and claim your spot. Attend an open session to get answers to technology questions about using your gadget. Want to know about settings? Apps? Downloads and file management? Bring in your tablet, phone, laptop or other digital gadgets along with your questions! The library will also have some devices available for practice.

Learn to create cards, posters, social media designs, flyers and more using Canva's free   layouts, images and graphic text. Designs can be shared digitally or prepared for print.  Great for the holidays!
Prerequisites: Familiarity with Internet and e-mail account for saving documents.

Learn the basics of Word including inserting, deleting, selecting, rearranging, formatting and aligning text.  Also learn about the undo/redo, spell and grammar check, thesaurus, find, replace, print and save tools.

Build on Word Level 1 skills by learning about page and line layout options and how to insert graphics and text boxes.

Have a laptop? We have wireless internet and can help you practice the basics on your own computer.

Assistance is limited to practicing basic skills and does not include computer maintenance or repair.

Using a Library Computer

  • Washington County Library card holders can use one of 75 computers for up to two hours a day.
  • If you do not have a library card, you can obtain a guest pass for one day by presenting your photo ID at the Welcome Desk on the 1st floor.
  • Access the library's Wifi with your own laptop computer and library card or guest pass.
  • You can make black-and-white printouts for 10 cents a page and color printouts for 50 cents a page.
