New to Computers and the Internet?

Free computer classes and open learning labs are typically held in the Technology Room on the second floor of the library. Registration is not required. Classes are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Stop by the Reference Desk a few minutes before classes start to get a ticket and claim your spot. Microsoft Excel - Level 1
Tuesday, September 18, 1-2:30 p.m.
Learn the basics of Excel including the layout and organization of the worksheet, how to reformat numbers and text and how to use formulas and functions.

Microsoft Excel – Level 2
Tuesday, September 25, 1-2:30 p.m.
Build on Excel Level 1 skills by learning how to change the appearance of your text and cells, sort and filter data, ensure data integrity and more.

Microsoft Excel - Level 3
Tuesday, October 2, 1-2:30 p.m.
Build on skills covered in Excel 1 & 2. Learn about setting printing options, creating column, bar and pie charts to better interpret your data. Building pivot tables and charts to change one-dimensional data into two-dimensional data with totals.

Open Learning Labs
Sundays, 2-4 p.m.
No appointment necessary. Drop in any time during lab hours! A volunteer will assist you with computer questions or guide you as you practice.

No appointment necessary. Friendly lab assistants are available to help you practice computer skills and work on projects such as typing, web searching and setting up email accounts. Drop by for hands-on practice or ask for help finding free online classes where you can learn at your own pace.

Have a laptop? We have wireless internet and can help you practice the basics on your own computer.

Assistance is limited to practicing basic skills and does not include computer maintenance or repair.

Using a Library Computer

  • Washington County Library card holders can use one of 75 computers for up to two hours a day.
  • If you do not have a library card, you can obtain a guest pass for one day by presenting your photo ID at the Welcome Desk on the 1st floor.
  • Access the library's Wifi with your own laptop computer and library card or guest pass.
  • You can make black-and-white printouts for 10 cents a page and color printouts for 50 cents a page.
