(May 6, 2013) The Tigard Police Department will once again participate in a nationwide traffic safety effort to enforce Oregon seat belt laws. The Click It or Ticket law enforcement campaign is set to begin on May 20th and continue through June 2nd. A violation will cost $110. Woman Thwarts Purse Snatch at Mall (March 21, 2013) A 65 year-old Portland woman reported an attempted robbery while shopping at the Washington Square Mall on March 14, 2013. The victim alleged at approximately 5:30 p.m. she had returned to her vehicle which was parked on the west side of the shopping complex. Free Shred Event at City Hall (March 21, 2013) The Tigard Police Department is partnering with Pride Recycling to offer a free “community shred” on Saturday, April 13, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Tigard City Hall parking lot (13125 SW Hall Blvd., Tigard). Pedestrian Struck By Vehicle in Tigard (March 14, 2013) At approximately 11:15 p.m., March 14, 2013, Tigard Police were notified of a pedestrian being struck by a motor vehicle at the intersection of Pacific Highway and 72nd Ave. in Tigard. The driver had stopped and cooperated with the investigation. WES Train Strikes Man in Tigard (March 14, 2013) A 22 year-old man apparently laid down on the WES commuter line tracks resulting in his death. The incident occurred today at approximately 5:40 a.m. The northbound commuter train had left the Tigard Transit Center only moments before the accident. Tigard Police Investigating Home Burglary (March 12, 2013) A Tigard homeowner called 9-1-1 to report a burglary. The incident on March 12th occurred in the 8500 block of SW Colony Creek Ct. in Tigard. The female victim reported to police that she entered her home at approximately 12:15 p.m. and was alerted to a noise in the rear of the dwelling. Woman Assaulted and Robbed In Parking Lot (March 5, 2013) On March 4, 2013, a woman reportedly was attacked and robbed of her purse while she walked through a parking lot at the Washington Square Mall in Tigard. Tigard Police Officer Provides Security During Presidential Inauguration (February 14, 2013) Tigard Police Officer Gabe Maldonado traveled to Washington D.C. last month to provide added safety and security within the Metro transit system during the inauguration. Officer Maldonado is currently assigned to Transit Police which provides police services along the entire Tri-Met system. Maldonado was selected along with a handful of other Portland area officers to help with the expected surge of ridership on Metro associated with the inauguration of President Obama. Purse Snatcher Steals Victim's Car Too (February 12, 2013) While shopping at a Tigard Rite-Aid, an 89 year-old woman had her purse unknowingly taken from a shopping cart where it had been placed. The incident took place at approximately 4:00 p.m. on Friday, February 8th at the store located at 16200 SW Pacific Highway. Moments after noticing the purse was gone, she alerted store employees and bystanders who quickly jumped into action. Three Juveniles Arrested After Theft Spree (January 23, 2013) Over the past weekend, Tigard Police investigated a rash of vehicle break-ins occurring in the neighborhoods along Pacific Highway near Canterbury Lane and Gaarde Street. As of Saturday morning, January 19th, police had taken seven reports of vehicles unlawfully entered. OLCC Compliance Checks in Tigard Yields Favorable Results (January 23, 2013) Results from two recent OLCC compliance checks conducted in Tigard appear to indicate that establishments selling or serving alcohol are continuing to maintain statewide better-than-average compliance. Tigard Police Commercial Crimes Unit Puts the Brakes on Local Chop Shop (January 22, 2013) After a week-long investigation, members of the Tigard Police Commercial Crimes Unit closed down an active vehicle "chop shop" operating in Tigard. After a tip which led investigators to the Affordable Automotive business located 13080 SW Pacific Highway in Tigard, six vehicles reported stolen have been recovered. Tigard Police Embarking On Distracted Driving Safety Campaign (January 8, 2013) The risks of driving while distracted are thoroughly documented. According to AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, using a cell phone while driving quadruples the risk of a crash. Driver inattention is a factor in more than one million traffic crashes in the U.S. each year, with consequences from serious injury to death. Tigard Police Plan Extra DUII Enforcement (December 19, 2012) Beginning immediately, Tigard Police will have additional officers on the roadways to ensure everyone’s safety. In cooperation with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) grant funding to promote high visibility enforcement (HVE), Tigard officers will be patrolling the roadways in Tigard with the primary focus on arresting impaired drivers. Drive-thru Coffee Bar in Tigard Robbed—Second Time in Two Weeks (November 8, 2012) For the second time in less than two weeks, the drive-thru Black Rock Coffee Bar reported a robbery. The business is located at 15290 SW Pacific Hwy. in Tigard. A 9-1-1 call to Tigard Police at approximately 7:35 p.m. on Nov. 7 advised that an adult white male with a bandana partially covering the facial area entered into the coffee kiosk by way of the drive-thru window. Tigard Police and OLCC Conduct Compliance Checks Throughout Tigard (October 30, 2012) Three out of 30 businesses visited in Tigard on October 25, 2012 failed to pass an OLCC check for alcohol sales to minors. The Tigard Police Department assisted the Oregon Liquor Control Commission (OLCC) with this effort. A team of OLCC inspectors along with two Tigard Police Officers accompanying two nineteen year-old male volunteers visited the selected establishments. Tigard Police Fundraise Most Dollars For Special Olympics Oregon (October 25, 2012) In a communication from Special Olympics Oregon, the Tigard Police Department’s efforts in a recent “Tip-a-Cop” event were identified as the top fundraising agency within the entire state of Oregon. Robbery at Tigard Dutch Bros. Coffee Drive-Thru (October 24, 2012) A 9-1-1 call at approximately 7:45 on Tuesday, October 23 alerted Tigard Police of a robbery which occurred at the Dutch Bros. Coffee located at 11746 SW Pacific Highway in Tigard. The female caller alleged that a man carrying a large knife had approached the business and demanded money and personal items from the employee. Tigard Bank Robbed by Armed Man (October 23, 2012) At 5:35 p.m. on Monday, October 22, a lone man entered the Chase Bank located 11354 SW Durham Rd. in Tigard and allegedly made a demand for money, but not before ordering all the customers and bank employees to lay face down on the floor. Tigard Police Recognizes Five Involved in Life Saving Efforts (October 22, 2012) Two Tigard Police Officers along with three Washington Square Security personnel were formally recognized for their valiant efforts which likely saved the life of a mother and her child. Shots Fired Call Leads to Arrest of Tigard Man (October 10, 2012) Tigard Police Officers were sent to a home located in the 9600 block of SW 74th Ave. in Tigard on Wednesday, October 10th at approximately 1:25 p.m. Moments before, a caller advised a police dispatcher that gunshots were heard in the area. Tigard Police Participating In Oregon Special Olympics Fundraiser (September 27, 2012) Tigard Police give a whole new meaning to "protect and serve" at an upcoming Tip-A-Cop event. Officers will serve as celebrity waiters and donate all the “tips” collected to Oregon Special Olympics. On Saturday, October 13th, the annual fundraiser will take place at the Red Robin Restaurant located at 10100 SW Washington Square Rd. in Tigard. The event is scheduled to take place from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. Tigard Police Charge Two In Connection with the Death of a 4 Year-old Boy (August 21, 2012) On Tuesday, August 14th, Tigard Police were notified by staff at a local hospital of a 4 year-old being treated for internal injuries. The boy was transported by emergency medical personnel from the Good Neighbor Center located at 11130 SW Greenburg Rd. in Tigard. Tigard Police Set To Enforce Pedestrian Crosswalk Laws (August 15, 2012) Drivers can expect periodic pedestrian safety enforcement operations around Tigard conducted by Tigard Police Traffic Safety officers. The next planned operation is scheduled for Friday, August 24th from 8 a.m. until noon. Tigard Man Assaulted — Suspect Arrested (August 7, 2012) On Monday, August 6, 2012 at approximately 3:30 p.m., Tigard Police responded to a 9-1-1 call advising of an assault. Police arrived within moments at the Astro Gas Station located at the intersection of Pacific Highway and Walnut St. in Tigard. An Astro employee called police for the victim, who is also an employee. Tigard Man Seriously Injured After Being Struck By Vehicle (July 5, 2012) A 60 year-old Tigard man was seriously injured Monday night, July 2nd, after being struck by a vehicle. The incident occurred as the man was crossing Pacific Highway near McKenzie St. in Tigard. The accident was reported to Tigard Police at 9:45 p.m. The motorist, 63 year-old Mark Murphy, also of Tigard, immediately stopped after allegedly striking the pedestrian. Washington County Law Enforcement Memorial Service (May 16, 2012) This year, National Police Week is May 13th through the 19th. During that week, one day is identified as Peace Officers Memorial Day. In keeping with local tradition, a service to honor fallen law enforcement officers will be conducted on Friday, May 18th at the Hillsboro Civic Center located 150 E. Main St. in Hillsboro. Stabbing in Tigard Sends Two To Hospital (May 15, 2012) A man called 9-1-1 at 11:12 a.m. on Tuesday to allege being stabbed along with another man. The victim advised police that the incident occurred near a bus shelter at the corner of Pacific Highway and Walnut Place in Tigard. Tigard Police Investigating Retail Organized Theft from Nordstrom (April 24, 2012) The Commercial Crimes Unit within the Tigard Police Department is currently investigating an Organized Retail Theft which occurred at the Nordstrom’s store at Washington Square Mall in Tigard. Tigard Police were called to the store just after noon on April 17, 2012 on reports of two men stealing armloads of merchandise. Tigard Police Officer Arrests Two Juveniles After a Graffiti Spree (March 27, 2012) Due to some observant and responsible Tigard residents, two juveniles allegedly responsible for a string of graffiti were caught and arrested. A Tigard resident called Tigard Police on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at approximately 1:50 p.m. to report graffiti observed near their home. Tigard Police Investigate Shilo Inn Robbery (March 21, 2012) An employee of the Shilo Inn located at 10830 SW Greenburg Rd. in Tigard called 9-1-1 at approximately 5:25 p.m. and reported being robbed. Fight Identity Theft—Tigard Police Offer Opportunity to Shred for Free (March 21, 2012) The Tigard Police Department in partnership with Pride Recycling, will be sponsoring a free “community shred” on Saturday, April 14. Three Pedestrians Struck by Motor Vehicle in Tigard (March 19, 2012) A vehicle driven by an 83-year-old man allegedly struck three pedestrians as they crossed Pacific Highway at McDonald St. in Tigard Thursday evening, March 15, 2012 at approximately 10:45 p.m. Tigard Police Search for Robbery Suspect (March 6, 2012) Tigard Police received a telephone call reporting a robbery at the Yummy Hawaii Restaurant at approximately 4:20 p.m. on Monday, March 5, 2012. The restaurant is located 11963 SW Pacific Hwy. in Tigard. Tigard Woman Struck by Tri-Met Bus (February 19, 2012) Thursday, February 16, 2012, a 9-1-1 call at approximately 7:30 p.m. alerted Tigard Police a female pedestrian had allegedly been struck and injured by a Tri-Met bus near the intersection of Pacific Highway and Walnut Street in Tigard. Two Arrested in Connection With Nordstrom Robbery in Tigard (February 15, 2012) A robbery occurred Tuesday afternoon at approximately 3:20 p.m. inside the Nordstrom store located at Washington Square Mall in Tigard. The suspect allegedly walked into the customer service area and presented a demand note to an employee. Suspect Arrested in ATM Robbery (January 30, 2012) At about 3:15 PM Sunday, January 29th, 2012, Tigard Police responded to a call of a Robbery at the ATM of Chase Bank, located at 11354 SW Durham Rd., Tigard, OR. Officers determined a middle aged woman had been approached by a male carrying a knife, who demanded she give him an undisclosed amount of money she had just withdrawn from the ATM. Burglary Suspects Lead Tigard Police In Chase—Ends With Two in Custody (December 5, 2011) A Tigard man called 9-1-1 at approximately 8:50 a.m. on December 5th alleging he interrupted a burglary at his home located along Hawks Beard St. and was held at gunpoint by a man and woman. A Tigard Police Officer who happened to be in the area on patrol spotted the two suspects in a red, older model Nissan Maxima parked near the Summer Creek Apartments. Hit and Run in Tigard—Pedestrian Struck While In Crosswalk (December 2, 2011) Tigard Police arrested a 55 year-old Portland man after the vehicle he was driving struck a man while in a crosswalk. The incident occurred December 2, 2011 at approximately 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of Pacific Highway and 72nd Ave. in Tigard. Tigard Police Searching for Wanted Suspect (October 26, 2011) Tigard Police Officers are actively searching for a subject with outstanding warrants and who has been successful in eluding officers in the past. Sergio Dupree Hunt, DOB 082886 is wanted by police for a series of domestic violence related incidents stemming from a location in Tigard. Landlord Training Scheduled: Make Rental Properties Safer (September 27, 2011) Tigard Police, in partnership with the Westside Crime Prevention Coalition will present a training opportunity for rental property owners and managers on Saturday, November 5, 2011. Tigard Police Unit Crashes While Responding to an Emergency (September 3, 2011) On Saturday, September 3, 2011 at approximately 8:15 p.m., Tigard police units were responding to an emergency call for assistance at a rental property near the western boundary of Tigard. One of the responding police units enroute to the call was involved in a traffic crash at the intersection of S.W. Walnut Street and S.W. Watkins Street in Tigard. Police Offer Free Training Aimed To Reduce Crime On Rental Properties (August 19, 2011) Westside Crime Prevention Coalition is inviting interested citizens to attend a free monthly landlord forum. Tigard Police Share Insight Regarding Mental Health Issues Within the Community (May 27, 2011) The faith community of St. Anthony Catholic Church has invited the Tigard Police Department, along with other key organizations, to speak to interested members of the community to learn more about mental illness. The focus of the planned 90 minute meeting is to share information regarding how law enforcement responds and works to serve as a resource for both the client and the community. Tigard Set to Begin Seat Belt Enforcement Campaign (May 20, 2011) The Tigard Police Department will once again participate in the "Three Flags Safety Belt Campaign" beginning May 23rd. The two week-long blitz is a multi-jurisdictional approach to help ensure motorists respect, obey and understand the importance of using seat belts and child safety seats. Tigard Police Investigating Robbery at Rite-Aid (April 28, 2011) On April 27, 2011 at approximately 8:55 a.m. an employee of Rite-Aid telephoned 9-1-1 to report a robbery. The witness told police a man allegedly had displayed a gun while demanding Oxycodone. Tigard Police Join Partnership To Help Make Prom Safe (April 13, 2011) Tigard Police has joined the collaborative efforts of several Washington County alcohol and drug prevention coalitions to help and encourage students participating in local high school proms stay safe. String of Tigard Burglaries Leads Police to Suspect (April 1, 2011) Tigard Police Officers were called to several businesses just before midnight, Thursday, March 31, 2011, as a result of either audible alarms or intrusions being reported by security monitoring firms. The first alarm was reported at Charlies Team Sports located at 11981 SW Pacific Highway in Tigard. Students Report Suspicious Vehicle Near Middle School in Tigard (April 1, 2011) Tigard Police would like to take this opportunity to remind parents the importance of speaking to their children regarding safety. Children should be encouraged to be alert and to know what steps to take in the event they find themselves in a situation that could be uncomfortable or possibly harmful. Key Bank Robbed-Suspect In Custody (March 29, 2011) An employee of Key Bank located at 11665 SW Pacific Highway in Tigard called 9-1-1 at 9:11 am on Tuesday, March 29, 2011 to report a robbery. Information relayed during the call indicated that a white male adult had presented a note to a bank employee demanding money. Man Robbed In Tigard Shopping Center Parking Lot (March 29, 2011) A 22-year-old Tualatin man called 9-1-1 and reported he was robbed by gunpoint. The victim told police the incident occurred just after he exited his parked vehicle. The robbery reportedly happened in the parking lot of a Tigard shopping center located at 13500 SW Pacific Highway just after 8:00 pm on Sunday evening, March 27th. Tigard Police Investigating Mid-Day Stabbing (March 22, 2011) Tigard Police Detectives are currently investigating a reported stabbing which occurred shortly after noon Tuesday, March 22, 2011 just outside a restaurant in Tigard. A call made to 9-1-1 reported an altercation between three men who were standing near the intersection of Center St. and 88th Ave. Tigard Police Participating In Oregon Special Olympics Fundraiser (March 11, 2011) On Saturday, March 26, 2011, a fundraiser to benefit Oregon Special Olympics will take place at the Red Robin Restaurant located at 10100 SW Washington Square Rd. in Tigard. The event is scheduled to take place from 11 am until 8 pm at the popular eating establishment at Washington Square. Tigard Plaid Pantry Robbed - No One Injured (March 7, 2011) An employee of a Plaid Pantry convenience store located 11705 SW Pacific Highway contacted police at approximately 6:30 am on Sunday, March 6, 2011 to report a robbery. The victim stated that a white male entered the store just before 6:30 am and made a demand for money. Tigard Urges Portland to Rejoin the Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF) (January 24, 2011) Tigard City Councilor Nick Wilson is currently leading the City of Tigard in efforts to strongly urge the City of Portland to reverse their decision cast in 2005 which withdrew their participation in the Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF). Pedestrian Struck While Crossing Pacific Highway (December 17, 2010) On December 16th, 2010 at approximately 7:30 pm, a 78 year-old Tigard man was struck by a vehicle as he attempted to cross Pacific Highway at Walnut St. Witness accounts point to the conclusion that the victim, Hugh Kabat, although walking in a crosswalk, had failed to yield to traffic moving in conjunction with a green light. Search Warrant at Tigard Home Yields Six Arrests (December 2, 2010) On December 1, 2010 at approximately 6:30 AM, a search warrant was executed at a Tigard residence located 7735 SW Gentle Woods Drive. The search warrant was carried out by the Tactical Negotiation Team (TNT) of the Washington County Sheriff's Office. Robbery Reported at Key Bank in Tigard (November 22, 2010) On Friday, November 19, 2010, an employee of the Key Bank located at 12744 SW North Dakota in Tigard called 9-1-1 to report a robbery String of Vandalism Overnight in Tigard (November 21, 2010) Many Tigard residents woke up to find either their vehicle or home vandalized overnight. Tigard Police received the first call of 14 subsequent reports at about 5 a.m. Sunday morning, November 21, 2010. Two Juveniles Arrested for Vandalism Spree (October 20, 2010) Tigard Police arrested two Tigard juveniles for allegedly spray painting graffiti on a host of buildings including homes, a church, on mailboxes, public property and vehicles. Ten victims reported damage to their property. US Bank Robbed-Police Apprehend Suspect (October 15, 2010) A 9-1-1 call indicated the US Bank located at 12160 SW Main St. in Tigard was robbed at approximately 12:55 pm on Thursday, October 14, 2010. Tigard Officers were in the area within moments and worked to contain the surrounding streets. Suspect Arrested After Confrontation With Police (October 15, 2010) On Thursday, October 14, 2010 at approximately 5:30 pm, two Tigard Police Officers were completing a report while seated in their patrol vehicle which was parked in a lot at the Washington Square Mall in Tigard near the Sears store. The officers began to observe what appeared to be a "road-rage" incident whereby a suspect allegedly began to ram another vehicle. Armed Robbery Reported at a Tigard Taco Bell (October 8, 2010) An employee at a Taco Bell Restaurant located at 11635 SW Pacific Highway in Tigard reported being robbed by an armed man. The incident occurred at approximately 10:15 p.m. on Wednesday, October 6, 2010. Rash of Vandalism Overnight In Tigard (October 8, 2010) Residents in Tigard woke up this morning to find a rash of vandalism which occurred overnight in neighborhoods located in the southeast area of the city. Tigard Police has documented ten reports so far with the potential for additional discoveries of vandalism as the day progresses. Convenience Store Robbery (October 7, 2010) Tigard Police detectives are presently investigating an armed robbery which reportedly occurred on October 5, 2010 at approximately 10:40 p.m. Landlord Training Scheduled (September 28, 2010) The Westside Crime Prevention Coalition (WCPC) will present a training opportunity to rental property owners and managers on Wednesday, November 3, 2010. Pedestrian Struck By Pickup--Driver Speeds Off (September 17, 2010) The Tigard Police Traffic Unit is currently investigating a hit and run which occurred Thursday, September 16, 2010 at approximately 6:30 a.m. The incident happened at the intersection of SW 72nd and Varns St. Robbery Suspect in Custody After Attempt to Elude (September 13, 2010) A Tigard Police Lieutenant was able to stop a robbery suspect from fleeing after a reported robbery that occurred at a Tigard coffee shop. The incident began at 11:15 am Friday morning, September 10, 2010 when an employee of the Brewed Awakening Coffee Shop reported being robbed. Apartment Shooting (September 1, 2010) On Tuesday August 31st at around 8:30 pm Officers responded to a disturbance and shots fired call at the Arbor Heights Apartments in Tigard. Tigard Police Investigating Suspicious Death (August 19, 2010) Tigard Police Detectives are presently investigating a suspicious death. A citizen walking through Fanno Creek Park spotted a body in the Fanno Creek. The observation was made just before 2pm on Monday, August 23, 2010. Pedestrian Injured After Being Struck by Motorcyclist (August 18, 2010) A 53 year-old Portland man was struck by a motorcycle as he crossed Pacific Hwy. in Tigard. The incident occurred at approximately 9:00 pm on August 18th. Northbound Pacific Highway was closed for a short time while the accident was investigated. Prescription Drug Take-Back Event Scheduled (August 16, 2010) Please mark your calendar for Saturday, September 25, 2010. A drop-off center will be in the parking lot of Tigard City Hall located at 13125 SW Hall Blvd. The event will begin at 10 a.m. and continue until 1 p.m. Tigard Police Seeking Suspect in Burglary and Sexual Assault Investigation (August 13, 2010) Tigard Police investigators are seeking a suspect who reportedly unlawfully entered a woman's home and sexually assaulted the victim.
