Call for Election for Tigard Mayor
Mayor Dirksen's current term of office expires December 31, 2014. He ran unopposed in the May 15 Primary Election for Metro Council, District 3. On June 22, 2012, he wrote to the Tigard City Council and Staff:

I have today received official notification of Metro's acceptance of the election results from last month's primary election. Insofar as their resolution no. 12-4353 formally recognizes me as the winner in District 3, I therefore make notice of my resignation of the office of Mayor of the City of Tigard, effective December 31, 2012.

The Tigard City Council determined it would call for an election to elect an individual to fill the unexpired term of Mayor Dirksen. On November 6, 2012, Tigard voters will elect a Mayor to serve from January 1, 2013 to December 31, 2014.

To file for candidacy, one must have been a Tigard resident for at least one year and be a registered voter.

To qualify for nomination, a candidate must submit a petition signed by at least 20 City of Tigard registered voters and pay a $50 filing fee. The filing deadline for the Mayor position is 6 p.m., August 6.
