Tigard Police Unit Crashes While Responding to an Emergency On Saturday, September 3, 2011 at approximately 8:15 p.m., Tigard police units were responding to an emergency call for assistance at a rental property near the western boundary of Tigard. One of the responding police units enroute to the call was involved in a traffic crash at the intersection of S.W. Walnut Street and S.W. Watkins Street in Tigard. The collision with another motorist took place on the roadway as the officer responded with emergency equipment activated. At some point as a result of the collision, the Tigard police car left the roadway and struck a residence which sits adjacent to the intersection. The resident of the home was not injured and was in a different room of the house at the time of the impact. The Tigard Police Officer and the two occupants of the other vehicle involved did receive non-life threatening crash-related injuries. All three people were transported to Providence St. Vincent's Hospital for medical care. All were treated and released. Tigard Police has directed the Washington County Crash Accident Reconstruction Team (CART) to lead the investigative effort into the cause of the crash. No one was initially arrested or cited as a result of this crash. |
