2011 Tigard Reads Will Feature The Right Stuff "Tigard Reads," the Tigard Public Library's fourth annual community-wide reading program, will feature Tom Wolfe's The Right Stuff. The 1979 classic chronicles America's first astronauts and the Mercury program that sent them into space. The Library will present space-themed events from Sunday, Sept. 11, through Wednesday, Oct. 5. Tigard will celebrate its 50th birthday on Sunday, Sept. 11, at 2 p.m. in the Community Room, featuring the Woody Hite Big Band. Readers can pick up complementary copies of the Tigard Reads books at the event while supplies last, thanks to a generous contribution from the Friends of the Tigard Library. Readers in grades six through twelve can also participate in Tigard Reads with Laika by Nick Abadzis or the graphic novel Twin Spica by KÖ Yaginuma. Younger readers in fourth through sixth grades can enjoy A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle. The selection for readers in kindergarten through third grade is Spacebusters: the Race to the Moon by Philip Wilkinson. Book discussions, guest speakers, films and games will all be part of the 2011 Tigard Reads experience. All programs are free. Please visit the Library or the Library website at for a complete listing of Tigard Reads activities or call the Library at 503-718-2517 for more information. |
