2011 "If I Were Mayor" Contest Winners
Mayor Craig Dirksen has awarded two local students with a $50 gift certificate for
their original work submitted as part of the 2011 "If I Were Mayor…" student contest
sponsored by the Oregon Mayors Association (OMA). In the Elementary School Poster category, St. Anthony's elementary student Jenelle Gaerlan won praise for her plan to "organize events to promote local businesses, make sure parks are clean and safe and have more funding for the library and its educational programs and activities." The award for Middle School Essay goes to Logan Phillips, also from St. Anthony's school. Phillips stated that he will improve upon the city's "lack of sidewalks, bike lanes, the awkward position of turning lanes and large investments such as the installing of sports facilities."
