Students Report Suspicious Vehicle Near Middle School in Tigard
Tigard Police would like to take this opportunity to remind parents the importance of speaking to their children regarding safety. Children should be encouraged to be alert and to know what steps to take in the event they find themselves in a situation that could be uncomfortable or possibly harmful.

Tigard Police recently obtained information from two students who attend Twality Middle School in Tigard. The two females stated they observed a white van being driven by an older white man as they were walking home on Wednesday, March 30, 2011. The pair had just departed the school and first noticed the van as it passed them traveling in the opposite direction. The van then turned around and very slowly followed behind until both girls turned and ran the opposite direction back to the school where they immediately reported the incident.

The students reported to police that the driver of the van made no gestures or spoke anything. The fact that the driver did turn around and appear to follow prompted the girls to take action. Since they were not too far from school, they decided to seek safety there.

Police have no additional description, information or reason to conclude that the driver had any ill intentions. Once again, the importance of children doing the right thing, such as what is being reported here is paramount. The students acted on solid instincts and remained observant. Encourage your children to be aware of their surroundings, avoid being alone and know what to do if they are approached or become targets of unwanted contact.
