String of Tigard Burglaries Leads Police to Suspect Tigard Police Officers were called to several businesses just before midnight, Thursday, March 31, 2011, as a result of either audible alarms or intrusions being reported by security monitoring firms. The first alarm was reported at Charlies Team Sports located at 11981 SW Pacific Highway in Tigard. Within minutes, another alarm call was dispatched to the Bank of America located at 11999 SW Pacific Highway, less than a block away from the first call. Immediately following, another business located at 9025 SW Center St, which is also within close proximity to the others, was also reporting an intrusion. In this case, a witness reported seeing a man throw a rock through the window of Nicoli Engineering. The witness chased the suspect off. Broken windows were discovered at all the locations and officers checked and cleared the businesses. Subsequently, Beaverton Police employed two K-9s to conduct a ground search for the suspect. The K-9 track led officers to a parking lot at the Tigarden Apartments, just a short walk away from where the burglaries were reported. Police located a suspect, 28 year-old Matthew Paul Urenia of Tigard, who was taken into custody. The witness to one of the earlier incidents identified Urenia as the person she spotted breaking a business window. Urenia is charged with Burglary II, Attempted Burglary II and Criminal Mischief I and II. Urenia was lodged in the Washington County Jail. |
