Tigard Receives Distinguished Budget Presentation Award The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) announced that the City of Tigard has received the GFOA's Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its Fiscal Year 2010-11 Budget. This is the 23rd year in a row that the City has received this award. In order to receive the award, the City's budget has to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. A panel of independent reviewers determines whether or not the City's budget meets these guidelines. The Panel must rate the budget document "proficient" in four categories to receive this award. The budget must serve as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide, and a communications device. The City received several outstanding marks in each of the categories. Craig Prosser, City Manager, stated "I am pleased that Tigard once again has received this award. This, along with the recent bond ratings upgrade, recognize Tigard's efforts to achieve excellence in all aspects of operations and the receipt of this award acknowledges this commitment. The City's budget process is extensive and provides many opportunities for citizen involvement and input." Prosser continued, "I would like to recognize and thank the Budget Committee for their participation and the City's Finance and Information Services staff for their hard work in preparing this budget document." The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 16,000 government finance professionals with offices in Chicago, IL and Washington, D.C. |
