Tigard Library Survey Results: Patrons Think Library is Great! Nearly 3,100 people answered the Tigard Public Library's annual survey in February. Based on the results, people appear to be pleased with the information, programs and customer service that the Library provides. The words "Great Library," "staff," "books" and "love" appeared most on responses to an open-ended question asking for comments. Other frequently used phrases were "good job," "great job," and "great place." Of those who used Children's services, 97.7 percent rated them "Excellent" or "Good." Of the 3,094 respondents, 3,019 said they used the checkout desk. A total of 97.4 percent of them deemed that service "Excellent" or "Good." For those who use the Reference Desk, 97.1 percent considered the service "Excellent" or "Good," and 96.5 percent of public computer users rated their availability "Excellent" or "Good." The survey asked which services people considered most important. The top two responses were "Providing books/materials for children and teens" and "Providing books/materials for adults." This year the survey asked about using online resources, which provide free access to over 175 premium research tools for those who have a library card for Tigard or any other public library in Washington County. A total of 72.4 percent of those who responded were either unaware of them or didn't use them. "This response tells us that we need to do a better job of publicizing these research tools," said Library Director Margaret Barnes. "They can be so helpful for people looking into a wide variety of subjects such as car repair, health issues, genealogy and much more." The Library has conducted the annual survey for more than 15 years. Since 2006 it has gathered more than 17, 000 responses from both library users and non-users. The surveys provide important feedback to help the Library determine priorities for programs, services and operations. In the past, the Library has used the responses to prioritize open hours, expand weekend programs for children and address issues related to parking.
