Tigard Police Chief Alan Orr learned from the Development Director for Special Olympics Oregon that the team from the Tigard Police Department secured the highest amount of donations for Special Olympics Oregon in the annual Red Robin Tip-a-Cop event.

Statewide, the event raised $51,388 in donations. Here are figures for the top five agencies:
  1. Tigard $5674
  2. Medford $5318
  3. Salem $4451
  4. Clackamas $4087
  5. Beaverton $3557

In a recent communication from Special Olympics Oregon, the Tigard Police Department's efforts in "Tip-a-Cop" was identified as the top fundraising agency within the entire state of Oregon. In cooperation with the Red Robin Restaurant located at Washington Square in Tigard, the annual "Tip-a-Cop" event held on March 26th brought in $5674.00. The money raised in Tigard came from the generous support of guests dining at the restaurant during the event, as well as from other Special Olympics Oregon supporters.

The Tigard Police Department would like to thank everyone who played a role in the good natured competition that brings awareness and needed funding to continue worthwhile programs under the direction of Special Olympics Oregon. For decades, law enforcement throughout Oregon has been closely supportive of Special Olympics and the annual "Tip-a-Cop" event is one of several fundraising efforts conducted with support by police. Tigard Police Participating In Oregon Special Olympics Fundraiser
On Saturday, March 26, 2011, a fundraiser to benefit Oregon Special Olympics will take place at the Red Robin Restaurant located at 10100 SW Washington Square Rd. in Tigard. The event is scheduled to take place from 11 am until 8 pm at the popular eating establishment at Washington Square.

Ten or more Tigard Officers will be participating in efforts to raise awareness and money to help support the Oregon Special Olympics. This event is considered to be one of the most essential fundraisers to help continue the important work of Oregon Special Olympics to provide year-round sports training and competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

The event, fittingly titled "Tip-a-Cop," is an opportunity for local law enforcement to help. Officers will assist wait staff throughout the day and find opportunity to speak to restaurant guests about the event and how they can help if interested. The high energy and fun environment typically lends itself to an even better experience while dining out. Both young and old will enjoy participating in the event. Please consider stopping in and joining the Tigard Police for this worthwhile effort.
