Fight Identity Theft - Tigard Police Offers Free Shredding
The Tigard Police Department, in partnership with Pride Recycling, will be sponsoring a community shred on
Saturday, April 16, 2011. The event will run from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. or when the truck reaches
capacity. This is an excellent opportunity to securely dispose of household or small business documents
and other materials containing sensitive information. Shredding paperwork and computer disks
effectively can reduce the elements of identity theft. Information released from the Oregon Attorney General noted Oregon ranked 15th in the nation regarding the growth of reported incidents of identity theft. Many incidents could have been averted if precautions were taken to reduce elements of personal data being available to criminals. Start gathering materials that you would like to dispose of, however please limit your volume to no more than two bags or boxes that can be carried. Tigard Police will have personnel on hand to help unload and transport the materials to the truck for shredding. The event will take place in the parking lot at Tigard City Hall, 13125 SW Hall Blvd. In addition, please consider bringing along a non-perishable food item or two. Volunteers will be on hand to assist with the collection which benefits the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry. As part of the Oregon Food Bank, they provide food to Tigard area residents in need. |
