Tigard Looking for Feedback on Tree Grove Preservation The City of Tigard is hosting an Open House for residents and interested parties to review and comment on the proposed Tree Grove Preservation Program. Please join City staff on Thursday, February 17, 2011, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm in Tigard Town Hall at 13125 SW Hall Blvd. for short presentations, illustrations of how the program will work, and an opportunity to ask questions and submit comments. City staff and the consultant team will give identical short presentations at 7:00 pm and then again at 7:45 pm. Attendees will have the chance to hear an overview of the conceptual framework for the preservation program, and also to hear answers to questions that are raised. There will also be tree-related kids' activities taking place so we invite you to bring your children. The idea for a Tree Grove Preservation Program was born out of community support during the Urban Forestry Master Plan process. City Council directed staff to develop a program that provides incentives and flexibility to property owners for the continued stewardship of Tree Groves in Tigard. The City recently completed an inventory of tree groves and a total of 70 groves, covering 544 acres, will be included in the program. The process of developing a preservation program will kick-off at this open house. You can check the location of inventoried tree groves at www.tigard-or.gov/trees. Property owners with a tree grove, or portion of a tree grove, on their land have been notified as to the process. The Tree Grove Preservation Program is just one piece of an even broader effort to update the City's code provisions relating to urban trees and forests (street trees, parking lot trees, landscape trees, heritage trees, hazard trees, etc.) For more information visit www.tigard-or.gov/trees or contact Darren Wyss at darren@tigard-or.gov or 503-718-2442. |
