Pedestrian Struck While Crossing Pacific Highway
On December 16th, 2010 at approximately 7:30 pm, a 78 year-old Tigard man was struck by a vehicle as he attempted to cross Pacific Highway at Walnut St. Witness accounts point to the conclusion that the victim, Hugh Kabat, although walking in a crosswalk, had failed to yield to traffic moving in conjunction with a green light.

The victim was struck by a vehicle driven by a 21 year-old Tigard resident. The driver immediately stopped and fully cooperated with the investigation. Police reports indicate no impairment on part of the driver and no citations were issued. Witnesses advised police that the pedestrian appeared to step directly in the lane of travel disallowing any opportunity for the driver to avoid striking the pedestrian.

The victim was transported by ambulance to OHSU with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries. Traffic was halted on Pacific Highway for about 15 minutes as emergency medical personnel tended to the victim and Tigard Police investigated the accident.
