Pedestrian Struck By Pickup--Driver Speeds Off
The Tigard Police Traffic Unit is currently investigating a hit and run which occurred Thursday, September 16, 2010 at approximately 6:30 a.m. The incident happened at the intersection of SW 72nd and Varns St.

According to witness statements obtained by Tigard Police, 57 year-old Maria Reyes was attempting to cross the signaled intersection of SW 72nd. As Reyes was reportedly walking across the roadway, she was allegedly struck by a vehicle which appeared to be turning left onto SW 72nd . After Reyes was struck, a witness came to her aid. The witness reported the suspect vehicle appeared to slow down and pull to the side of the road but moments later sped off. The witness attempted to chase the suspect vehicle in efforts to stop it, but was unable.

The victim was transported by ground to OHSU. Initial indications appear that Reyes injuries were non-life threatening. Reyes remains hospitalized.

The witness stated the suspect vehicle is a red, full-size pickup truck. The truck had a noticeable hard cover over the pickup bed. It also had a spoiler which makes the appearance of the truck rather unusual. Prior to the incident, the suspect vehicle was traveling southbound on Hwy 217 and took the 72nd Ave exit.

Tigard Police is asking the help of the public to locate the suspect truck. Anyone with information is asked to call 503-718-2753. Information can also be sent to tips@Tigard-or.gov
