Three Flags Campaign Continues to Reflect Strong Compliance
Tigard Police Officers issued 57 citations to motorists during the last Three Flags Campaign; of which 13 were for seat belt violations. The "stepped up" approach to bring awareness and compliance to Oregon's Seat Belt Law took place between May 24th and June 6th.

The program is a multi-jurisdictional approach to help ensure motorists respect and obey the life saving law. Another goal of the campaign is to increase awareness and usage of seat belts for all occupants of motor vehicles. It also focuses on the proper usage of child safety seats and speed violations.

During the two week enforcement period, officers noted a nearly 97 per cent compliance for motorists wearing seat belts. Oregon typically ranks extremely high percentage wise pertaining to states that exhibit higher than average seat belt usage.

The safety enforcement campaign is a federally funded program administered by ODOT through the Oregon State Sheriff's Association, Oregon Association Chiefs of Police and OSP Patrol Services. Over one hundred state, county and city police agencies are participating in overtime grants to be used primarily during joint, statewide enforcement saturations.
