Daytime Attempted Car-jacking A 38 year-old Tigard woman reported an attempted car-jacking Monday morning occurring at a shopping center. The victim called 9-1-1 at approximately 11:15 am after a man approached her in a parking lot located near 12060 SW Main St. in Tigard. Police reports indicate as the victim was exiting her 2000 Volvo, the suspect approached her and demanded the keys to her vehicle. The victim did not know if he was serious at first, but when the suspect displayed a black handgun, the victim complied. The victim placed the keys into the ignition as ordered. The suspect also demanded the victim's purse, which she did not hand over. The victim quickly left the area in search of safety. The suspect, likely unfamiliar with the operation of the ignition, was unable to start the vehicle. The victim observed him running from the area to the rear of the shopping center. The victim was not injured. The suspect is described as an adult white male in his 20s, dark complexion and shoulder length brown hair. He was wearing a black scarf over his mouth and nose along with dark sunglasses. The victim recalled he was also wearing a red hoody with a white symbol. Once notified, Tigard Police arrived on the scene within moments. The area was contained and a K9 search was initiated however no suspect was located. The vehicle was later processed for evidence by a crime scene technician from the Washington County Sheriff's Office. Video surveillance possibilities were also checked, but none were located. |
