Motorcyclist Eludes Tigard Police Officer - Suspect Later Crashes At approximately 11 a.m. today, a Tigard Police Motor Officer attempted a traffic stop with a motorcyclist allegedly speeding along southbound Hwy 217 near 72nd Ave. in Tigard. The motor officer followed the motorcyclist onto southbound I-5 and motioned for the cycle operator to move off the roadway. At that point the cyclist sped off and attempted to elude. The Tigard Officer followed to once again stop the cyclist, but as they appeared headed towards a more heavily trafficked area, decided to fall back and observe from a safe distance the direction of travel of the eluding motorcyclist. The suspect ultimately crashed into two vehicles near the intersection of 72nd and the entrance ramp to southbound Hwy 217 in Tigard. The Tigard Police motor officer arrived within moments of the crash to spot the errant motorcyclist attempting to flee on foot from the scene. The officer was able to detain the suspect in a nearby field, who had apparently sustained injuries as a result of the crash. The officer immediately called for emergency medical to respond and treat the suspect who was ultimately transported by ambulance to OHSU. Other Tigard Police officers arrived on scene momentarily assisting the motorists that became involved with the errant motorcyclist. A driver of one of the vehicles, a Prius, was transported by ambulance. Her injuries did not appear serious. The driver of the other vehicle involved did not report being injured. The identification of the motorcyclist injured in the crash is unknown at this time. No arrests have been made however criminal charges may be forthcoming as Tigard Police continues the investigation. |
