Burnham Street Construction Takes a Holiday Break Construction on Burnham Street near Tigard's downtown will be halted for two weeks over the holidays. The planned break from December 21 to January 4 will ensure construction-free shopping and dining, says project manager Kim McMillan. "Burnham Street improvements are underway and on-schedule, but we wanted a construction-free zone on Burnham during the holidays," McMillan reports. Construction on nearby Ash Avenue will continue, however. New Burnham Street will be Tigard's first "Green Streets" project, widening and reconstructing the roadway, adding on-street parking along both sides of the street, stormwater treatment planters, new sidewalks and pedestrian amenities - benches, new street lights, street trees and landscaped gateways. Construction began in November 2009 with clearing and underground utility repairs. Starting in January, project contractor Kodiak Pacific Construction will begin replacing stormwater pipe down the center of Burnham Street. "We will keep Burnham Street open for business, even during disruptive events - such as laying new pipe under the roadway," McMillan explains. Starting in January, representatives from the City of Tigard and the contractor will provide the latest project updates to area businesses every Friday at 7:30 a.m. at the Main Street McDonald's in downtown Tigard. "Everyone is invited to attend," McMillan says. "Our goal is to share information, answer questions and get feedback from area property owners and business operators."
