Solar Crossing Comes to Tigard High

The City of Tigard invites the community to celebrate the completion of a new marked crosswalk on Durham Road. Join us on August 25th from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. to celebrate this joint effort between the City of Tigard and Tigard High School. Dedication will begin at 10:30 a.m., and will include speeches by the City Mayor and School District representatives, a ceremonial cake cutting, and a special presentation by Tigard High School students. The event will take place at a covered tent at the crosswalk, directly in front of Tigard High School located at 9000 Durham Road.

This high-tech crosswalk uses solar power, features in-ground lighting, and has an audible announcement. It is one of the first crosswalks of its kind to be installed in the City of Tigard. The crosswalk was built in response to a request by a Tigard High School student concerned about the safety of students who often jaywalked across the busy Durham Rd. The crosswalk makes it possible for residents and students to safely and efficiently cross the street, arriving directly in front of the Tigard High School main entrance.
