Tigard Appreciates Military Families
The City of Tigard is home to the headquarters of the 41st Brigade Combat Team
of the Oregon National Guard. In early May, Oregon sent 3,000 men and women
from the 41st Brigade Combat Team overseas for the next 12 months—most
headed for duties in Iraq. This deployment is in addition to the 7,500
guardsmen and 3,500 reservists already deployed for service abroad.
No corner of our state will go untouched by this deployment,
the largest since World War II.Keep in Touch Skype technology is available at the Tigard Public Library and can help keep families connected. Make free or inexpensive calls and video calls over the internet using the free Skype software in the library’s Technology Lab. This program enables soldiers to see and speak to friends and family during their deployment. Come to an Open Lab at the library to learn about the technology and try it out! Staff assistance will be available throughout June on Sundays from Noon–2 p.m.; Tuesdays from 1:30–3:30 p.m.; and Wednesdays from 4–6 p.m. Whether or not you know a neighbor, friend or relative serving in the military, please honor the sacrifice a soldier’s family makes for our community. Toss an extra burger or two on the barbecue grill this summer or make a point to include their children in neighborhood games, events and celebrations. The 41st Brigade Combat Team includes moms, dads, husbands, wives, brothers, sisters and friends to many in the Tigard community. As summer kicks off, many kids will be missing one of their parents, husbands and wives will be without their spouse, and soldiers will miss celebrations and milestones. Your support for military families embodies the reason Tigard is a place to call home.
