Photo Radar Sign a Hoax Earlier this week, residents living near the Castle Hill subdivision in Tigard noticed something new. An ominous looking silver contraption sprang up and began peering from atop of a sign post that stemmed from a water quality pond along Walnut St. near the intersection of Northview Drive. A nearby resident contacted the Tigard Police Department to inquire about the object's abrupt appearance. It was soon discovered that the object was the source of a prank.
A facsimile of a "photo radar" camera was inappropriately installed in the public right of way. While the "replica" of a photo radar unit may have struck some as being humorous, it is important to note that displaying an unlawful sign upon or in view of any highway is a violation of Oregon Statute and is subject to a $250 fine. The object was removed by a City worker. It is uncertain the motive for the prank sign. The person responsible may have wanted to merely demonstrate to motorists the importance of traveling at or below the posted speed in the area. While most law abiding citizens can certainly appreciate the efforts to make their neighborhood roads safer, this particular action is not recommended. The Tigard Police Department welcomes input from the community to assist in making roadways in Tigard safer. For added convenience a "Traffic Complaint" form is available online. |
