Pair Connected to Organized Retail Theft Arrested
After a short pursuit beginning in the parking lot of Washington Square Mall and ending without incident, two women were taken into custody by Tigard Police. Sunseyaray Wright, 26, of Alameda, California and 23 year old Chyna Mercedes Wright, also of Alameda, California allegedly had been passing fraudulent travelers checks to merchants in Tigard as well as a host of other locations in the metro area including Lloyd Center and other retail centers.
Shortly before 5pm on Thursday, April 9th, Tigard Police Dispatch received a call from a merchant at Washington Square Mall advising of someone attempting to use fraudulent travelers checks. A Tigard Officer spotted a vehicle with two suspects leaving the center matching the description provided by security personnel at the mall. The vehicle exited the mall and proceeded into the Garden Home area, where the vehicle turned onto a dead-end street forcing the vehicle to a stop. Tigard Police officers took both women into custody without incident at the scene along Rustling Leaves Pl. Both women were transported and lodged at the Washington County Jail. Sunseyaray Wright, the driver of the getaway vehicle, is charged with Felony Attempt to Elude, Reckless Driving and Possession of a Forged Instrument I, Organized Retail Theft, Theft I and Forgery I, Aggravated Identity Theft, Attempted Theft I and Attempted Theft Il.The second suspect, Chyna Wright is charged with Possession of a Forged Instrument l, Organized Retail Theft, Theft I, Forgery I, Aggravated Identity Theft, Attempted Theft I and Attempted Theft II.
After a search of the suspect's vehicle, Tigard Police located and seized over $9400.00 of counterfeit $100 travelers checks along with receipts, merchandise and cash received from travelers checks purchases totaling over $6800.00 occurring within the past two days. Many of the travelers checks passed were printed with duplicated serial numbers according to reports.
The suspects were traveling in a rented vehicle which was towed from the scene.
