Do Not Interact With the Bears!
Earlier today, a resident in the 13200 block of SW Ascension Dr. in Tigard, alerted police that they observed two bear cubs in a tree which borders their property. Police confirmed that two bear cubs are perched in the trees and related caution that the mother bear, which has not been seen yet, may likely be in the area as well.

The concern is if a human were to get too close to the bears, the mother bear may perceive that as a threat to her den and resort to her instincts to protect the cubs. Tigard Police have notified Oregon Fish and Wildlife regarding the situation. They are currently monitoring the sightings and working to help resolve the matter.

In the meantime, members of the Tigard Police Department are going door to door in hopes of notifying all the residents in the immediate area where the bears have been spotted. The residents are being advised to remain away from that area and allow the bears to remain undisturbed.

Anyone observing the bears is asked to contact the non-emergency police dispatch at 503-629-0111. The information will be relayed to police who in turn will keep other agencies involved notified of any movement of the bears. Parents in the area are also urged to keep their children supervised outdoors and away from the area where the bears have currently been observed.
