Tigard Police Receives Donation of AED The Tigard Police Department will be adding another AED (Automated External Defibrillators) to their resources as a result of a donation made by Landmark Ford President, Jim Corliss. The donation of $2000 will purchase the lifesaving device used to treat victims of sudden cardiac arrest. The defibrillators are designed to quickly and easily provide an electric shock that restores the victim's normal heart rhythm. Mr. Corliss is currently the National Automobile Dealers Charitable Foundation Ambassador. The foundation permits an ambassador to direct a donation of their choice every three years. Mr. Corliss selected Tigard Police as his choice for this donation. A check was presented to Tigard Police Chief Bill Dickinson at a meeting held today at Landmark Ford in Tigard. Chief Dickinson remarked that "the Tigard Police Department is greatly honored and appreciative for this consideration. The ability to purchase an additional AED will expand on the department's ability to be even more responsive to the needs of the community." Tigard Police trains all of their police officers and other department members on the use of an AED. Many times, police officers arrive first at the scene of medical emergencies. An AED allows police officers the capability of providing first responder assistance in situations involving cardiac arrest. Additional information about the use of an AED can be found with the American Heart Association on the web at www.americanheart.org |
