2009 Tigard Tree Stewardship Awards
Every year the City of Tigard presents Tree Stewardship Awards to individuals, businesses, or organizations who contribute to our city's beautiful urban forest or a broader community understanding of the proper care and benefit of trees. These awards are nominated by those who have noticed their efforts, and care enough to take the time to bring them to our attention.

To help the Tigard Tree Board and City Council select this year's award winners, the City is distributing nomination forms. The inclusions of "extras" such as photographs, plans, newspaper clippings, or any other items of note, are especially encouraged. Judges will evaluate entries on the basis of impact, quality, innovation, stewardship, and adherence to sound tree management practices.

Eligible projects could include:
  • A business that has paid particular attention to the protection and preservation of trees during construction.
  • Acknowledgement of a donor's generous financial support and sponsorship of community forestry projects.
  • An outstanding project or program that has been planned, and/or implemented, by youth - perhaps a youth organization, a school, or an individual.
  • A neighbor or business that has done an outstanding job of landscaping and incorporating trees into the design.
  • An individual, organization, or business that works with trees (e.g. an arborist, landscape architect, etc) and exemplifies sound tree management; has an ability to build partnerships; work with volunteers; and is generally seen as rising above and beyond the "call of duty" in enhancing our urban forest.
  • An individual or organization that has made significant contributions to community forestry through the partnerships, donations, and innovation in tree planting and/or management.
The cut-off date for submission of nominations is March 20, 2009. Winners will be selected by the Tigard Tree Board on April 1, 2009, and honored at the April 14, 2009, City Council Meeting. If you would like more information, please call Associate Planner, John Floyd, at 503-715-2429, or email johnfl@tigard-or.gov.
