Late Night Crash Involves a Tigard Police Vehicle
A Tigard Police officer conducting traffic observation early Thursday morning at about 1:30 a.m. was struck by a vehicle driven by 43 year old Joseph Witt of Beaverton. Witt was traveling along the off ramp of southbound Hwy 217 which leads to I-5 southbound when his vehicle struck the Tigard police vehicle which at the time was moving into the emergency lane and preparing to stop. Both the Tigard Officer and Witt escaped serious injuries. Officer Michael Powers was taken to a local hospital to be checked. He was subsequently released. Witt declined any medical attention.

The investigation into the crash is currently continuing. No citations have been issued at this time, but may be forthcoming. The Tigard patrol vehicle sustained extensive and likely totaling damages.

Police remind motorists that they need to anticipate the unexpected, regardless of what time of day and location. Traveling at highway speeds increases the importance of being aware.
