Successful Traffic Safety Enforcement Run in Tigard
Traffic Enforcement Dates and Locations in Tigard
Over the past several weeks, Tigard Police conducted numerous traffic safety enforcement operations to draw added attention to the importance of pedestrian crosswalk laws.

The Traffic Unit placed particular emphasis on several locations throughout Tigard that have historically been the source of citizen complaints citing "close calls" or a motorist's blatant disregard for pedestrian safety when attempting to cross a roadway. Some of the intersections included in the operations were; Sequoia Parkway at Redwood and Cardinal Lns. along with Upper Boones Ferry Rd. at 72nd Ave. In addition, areas along Main St. at Commercial St. and Greenburg Rd. near Center St. were also a focus location as they consistently are the source of pedestrian complaints as well.

Tigard Officers typically conducted the enforcement campaigns during the morning or late afternoon when many of the problems appeared to be more prevalent. Police also advertised the enhanced enforcement efforts on the City of Tigard website as well as placing signs in the areas of focus on the day of the event. To date, over 100 citations and warnings were issued, largely for pedestrian crosswalk violations. The enforcement effort is made possible by a grant provided by the Willamette Pedestrian Coalition (WPC) which is in part, also funded by the Bicycle Transportation Alliance (BTA).

In addition to the focus on pedestrian safety, Tigard Police has also been fortunate to receive grant funding to provide supplemental enforcement of DUII. Most recently, funding to provide overtime opportunity to Tigard Officers for enhanced patrol and detection for impaired driving enforcement yielded four DUII arrests in addition to two Minor in Possession (MIP) for alcohol/marijuana and fourteen other citations. Plans to conduct up to three more shifts of DUII enforcement are planned for later this month.

Any questions regarding the enhanced traffic patrols and enforcement can be directed to the Traffic Unit at 503-718-2549.
