Tigard Police Crack Down On Prostitution
Tigard Police is taking a firm approach to help reduce incidents of prostitution occurring in Tigard. Over the past several months, Officers working undercover have made sixteen arrests for persons engaging in prostitution or associated crimes.

Solid, consistent investigative formats have worked to bring success to this important focus. All of the cases investigated by Tigard Police involved the internet as the primary medium for suspects to attract their clients. All the investigations and subsequent arrests have stemmed from hotel and motel locations around Tigard.

One of the cases recently investigated and cleared with the arrest of the suspect, involved the compelling of prostitution involving a fifteen year old girl. The suspect arrested in that incident was charged with six Measure 11 crimes. That case is currently awaiting trail.

While all of the charges stemming from the sixteen arrests involved prostitution, numerous other charges were also identified including Sex Abuse, Child Used in Display of Sexually Explicit Conduct, Promoting Prostitution, Identity Theft and Possession, Manufacturing or Delivery of controlled substances. The drugs involved included cocaine, methamphetamine, hashish, marijuana and a variety of prescription drugs. Typically, prostitution and drugs coincide involving both elements.

Tigard Police plan to continue taking the necessary steps in helping to reduce prostitution and in turn work to create a safer and more desirable community for everyone.
