"If I Were Mayor…" Student Contest Deadline Approaches

Mayor Craig Dirksen invites Tigard Middle School, High School and College students to enter the 2008 "If I Were Mayor…" Student Contest sponsored by the Oregon Mayors Association.

May 30, 2008 is the deadline to enter the contest. Students should submit their original work with a completed entry form to Joanne Bengtson at Tigard City Hall, 13125 SW Hall Blvd, Tigard, OR 97223 by 5 p.m. May 30, 2008.

Mayor Dirksen and City Council will select one winner in each of three (3) categories: Middle School Poster, High School Essay, or High School/College Video/PowerPoint presentation. Applications are available at Tigard City Hall, or download an application here!

The local winner in each category will be awarded a $50 gift certificate to the Washington Square mall and recognition at the June 24, 2008 televised Council meeting.

Mayor Dirksen will submit the winning submission in each category to the League of Oregon Cities by June 30, 2008 to be eligible for the statewide competition. Three statewide winners will receive lap-top computers.

A statewide winner in each category will be determined by an evaluation committee made up of the Oregon Mayors Association Executive Board plus two mayors. Statewide winners will be notified in mid-July. The winners and their parent will be invited to attend the Oregon Mayors Association Summer conference in Pendleton, August 2, 2008.

Statewide winners will receive additional recognition at the League of Oregon Cities Conference (LOC) in Salem in October 2008.
