Neighborhood Meeting: Burnham Improvements and Ash Avenue Extension
A Neighborhood meeting to receive public input is scheduled for March 13, 2008 at 6:00 PM in the Tigard Town Hall for improvements to SW Burnham Street between Main Street and Hall Boulevard and the extension of SW Ash Avenue between Burnham Street and the railroad tracks.
Almost a year ago on March 22, 2007, the City of Tigard hosted a meeting to review the preliminary design plans for the project. At that meeting, we discussed the Downtown Improvement Plan, the Urban Renewal District, and the Downtown Streetscape Design Plan. We asked for your input on a number of issues relating to the roundabout intersection, driveway consolidations, the landscaped median area, pedestrian crossings, and other features of the project. Many of the suggestions provided by the members of the neighborhood have been incorporated into the project design. For example, the Ash Avenue/Burnham Street intersection has been revised from the original roundabout intersection to a more traditional 4-way intersection. The project design has also been revised to accommodate to, the extent feasible, the key features of the recently adopted Fanno Creek Park and Plaza Master Plan.
The Burnham Street project will include new water mains, storm sewers, revisions to the sanitary sewers, a new street with one travel lane for each direction, on-street parking stalls, a median/two-way left turn lane, sidewalks and street lights. All of the existing overhead power and communication wires will be removed and placed underground. The project will also include an innovative "green street" stormwater disposal system.
The Ash Avenue extension project will include construction of a 24 foot wide paved section to provide two travel lanes and a 5 foot wide sidewalk on the west side only. The new street will connect the future improved Ash Avenue/Burnham intersection to the new Park & Ride parking lot being constructed by the Commuter Rail Project.
Ash Avenue is scheduled to be built this year to provide access to the rail station. Construction of the underground utility system on Burnham Street is also planned for this year, followed by installation of water, storm drain, sanitary sewer pipes, and road work.
