Distraught Man Attempts Suicide By Jumping From Bridge
Around 0227 on 9/9/07 Tigard Police Officers received information from a passing motorist that a distraught man was standing over a railing on the Highway 99W Viaduct in downtown Tigard, appearing to be getting ready to jump from that substantial height to the road below.

Officers arrived and made contact with the subject and were able to talk to him about what he was doing, but he was reported to be quite intent on ending his life. At some point Officers put a hasty plan together and were able to grab the subject and bring him back over the railing after it appeared he was just about to jump from this precarious position.

The subject was later identified as a 24 year old Tigard man. He was transported uninjured by police to Emanuel Hospital on a Police Officer's Hold for a psychiatric evaluation.
