Police K-9 Lead To Arrest of Cat Burglar

This early morning around 4:21 a.m. a Tigard man awoke to strange noises within his home at the Carriage House Apartments on S.W. Pfaffle Street in Tigard Oregon. He investigated the noises to find a male intruder within the apartment, and although startled, he confronted this person challenging why he was inside. The male apparently took immediate flight out a patio door and Tigard Police units were called to the location by the resident via "911." No mention of force or weapons was alleged by the resident, but it was clear that he was quite flustered by the encounter in the early morning by an intruder within his home.

Containment units were placed in a perimeter around the apartment complex and neighboring area and a Beaverton Police K-9 responded to assist Tigard Police in locating the suspect. The resident of the apartment determined that a laptop computer and some other personal items had been taken by the burglar. Police obtained a physical and clothing description of the suspect which was broadcast to the officers who awaited the responding K-9.

Upon the arrival of the K-9 Team, the police were able to locate the property that had been stolen and discarded by the burglar while he fled the scene. The K-9 led the officers directly to it after scaling a fence that borders the apartment complex. After a period of time passed, a suspect was later found within the containment area by the K-9 that matched the suspect description of the burglar, and he was arrested near the scene where he was attempting to conceal himself without incident.

Tigard Police arrested Darrell Lamar Singleton (age 31) of Beaverton for the crimes of Burglary in the first degree and Theft in the first degree. Other charges for Violations of Probation are also being forwarded to Singleton's probation officer. He was lodged at Washington County Jail awaiting arraignment.
